Steve Leach

Appointed Shropshire captain ahead of the 2016 season, Steve is a consistent left-handed opening batsman who topped the county’s Championship averages, with 42, during the 2017 season.

It was a campaign which saw him pass 2,000 runs in Championship cricket for the county.

Steve skippered Shropshire for three years before being succeeded by Joe Carrasco in June 2019 when he secured a new job which restricted his availability.

The younger brother of Worcestershire captain Joe Leach, Steve also spent time earlier in his career with the New Road club, playing second team cricket for the Pears, and has also played first-class cricket for Oxford MCCU.

He has a highest first-class score of 63, for Oxford MCCU, against Northamptonshire in 2016, while he hit a century, an unbeaten 110, against a Surrey side featuring Kevin Pietersen 12 months earlier but the match was not granted first-class status.

Steve’s highest score for Shropshire is 178 against Devon in 2015 at Shrewsbury, his former home club ground. He now plays his club cricket for Shifnal in the Birmingham League.

Steve, who was born in Stafford, made his Shropshire debut in 2012 and was presented with his county cap in 2018.

His one-day debut came against Norfolk at Shrewsbury before he was introduced to the Championship side against Dorset at Bournemouth three months later.
