Shropshire v Cumberland

MCCA Knockout

Sunday 13 May 2007

Shrewsbury Cricket Club

Match Abandoned

Shropshire 1 point  Cumberland 1 point

Shropshire’s second match in the MCCA Knockout fell victim to the weather, as just 28 minutes and 7 overs of play were possible before rain brought an early end to the proceedings.

Shropshire made one change from the team which beat Herefordshire, with Duncan Catterall replacing Asif Sultan. Cumberland skipper Gary Pratt won the toss and predictably asked the hosts to bat on a wicket which offered help to the bowlers. His decision was soon vindicated as Chris Hooker induced Tim Hancock to mistime a hook to mid on, and then bowled Jono Whitney for a duck. Almost immediately the rain, which had been falling from the second over, forced the players into the pavilion, from which they did not return.

Shropshire’s disappointment was tempered by the news that the other match in the group between Herefordshire and Cheshire also fell victim to the weather without a ball being bowled, leaving the group wide open with two matches to play.
