Sam captains Bridgnorth in the Birmingham League and is renowned as a consistent wicket taker.
He was appointed captain of Shropshire’s National Counties Cricket Association Championship side ahead of the 2021 season and as vice-captain to Graham Wagg in one-day cricket.
The younger brother of former Shropshire stalwart Jono Whitney, Sam made his Championship debut against Devon at Sandford in 2017 before taking 4-85 in Wiltshire’s first innings on his home debut at Cricket Meadow, his home club ground.
His first five-wicket haul in the Championship came against Berkshire at Finchampstead in July 2018, 5-133 in the second innings, during a match in which he claimed nine wickets overall.
Sam is a right-arm leg spinner, useful batsman and a very good fielder.
