Shropshire County Cricket Club’s Academy team make a quick return to Ellesmere College when they welcome Cheshire CCC’s Academy side tomorrow (Sunday).

Shrewsbury’s Lewis Evans leads a Shropshire side which combines players with previous Academy experience and several new players who have come through Shropshire Cricket Board’s pyramid pathway.

Play tomorrow starts at 11am in a 50 overs per side friendly.

Players have been selected following a successful winter training programme both at board and county club level, which follows the talented players nominated from cricket clubs in the county.

Following last Friday’s game against Ellesmere College, there are several changes to the Shropshire Academy side due to exam commitments, injury and non-availability of key players.

Head of Academy Ian Roe said: “We expect Cheshire to bring a strong side with plenty of experience and it will be good for the players selected to pit themselves against our northern neighbours.

“Both counties are looking to develop cricketers for the upcoming NCCA 50-over competition and the three-day Championship matches which start in July and these fixtures create a bigger picture.

“We were very impressed by the group who played last Friday, but respect how important their exams are so some make way on this occasion.

“Several other players are not available due to injury or other commitments, so we are lucky to call on lads who have worked hard during the winter and early season.

“It is hoped they can express themselves and contribute during this game. Healthy competition will keep everyone on their toes and they can perform well for their respective clubs during their league campaigns.”
