Shropshire will give a debut to Wellington seamer Jack Twigger in Sunday’s Unicorns Trophy second round tie against Staffordshire at Himley.

Shifnal allrounder Jack Edwards, pictured, also comes into the side which beat Herefordshire by two wickets at Whitchurch in round one.

Opening bowler Alex Wyatt is ruled out by the shoulder injury sustained on Bank Holiday Monday in the opening Twenty20 match against Oxfordshire while Dillon Pennington is unavailable owing to Worcestershire commitments.

Shropshire’s chairman of selectors Bryan Jones said: “Jack Twigger’s trained hard during pre-season, he has a very good attitude and he’s bowled well for Wellington at the start of the season.

“Jack Edwards did well in the Twenty20 matches against Oxfordshire at Shrewsbury and deserves his chance.”

Jones expects a tough game against Staffordshire but is hopeful Shropshire can build on their first round victory over Herefordshire when opening batsman Omar Ali, whose brother Kadeer is the Staffordshire captain, hit an unbeaten 92.

Shropshire: Steve Leach (Shifnal, captain), Omar Ali (C&R Hawks), Will Parton (Shrewsbury), Alexei Kervezee (Halesowen), Ross Aucott (Shifnal), Simon Gregory (Bridgnorth), Jack Edwards (Shifnal), Sam Whitney (Bridgnorth), Gurjit Sandhu (Twickenham), Mike Barnard (Shrewsbury), Jack Twigger (Wellington). 12th man: David Laird (Bridgnorth).
